Guys. I cannot wait for my dissertation draft to be done because then I can have a life again. If you don't know me in my non-internet life they you might not know that due to some department craziness I (along with a few others) got hit with a surprise deadline that more or less requires me to write my dissertation in a few weeks. Hence, I have no life until sometime near the end of April (and also why my updates are not with their usual morning regularity).
In order to get myself motivated I've made a list of things I'm looking forward too.
1. Reading books that are not required - Oh my god, how much I want to read books that are not required, that have no mention of theory. And are completely unrelated to environmental politics. And maybe, perhaps just maybe, require little to no brain power. Here's what's on my list:
2. Join a CSA and start canning! - Yeah I've never joined a CSA and I'm really looking forward to getting in on that vegetable and fruit goodness this year. ALSO, my mom got me this book, Preserve It!, for Christmas and I am dying to start canning. And then I will bring my canned goods to the From Scratch Club Swap and it will be awesome. Also, pickles.
3. Make arts and crafts! - Oh my god, all I want to do is make arts and crafts. I have so many arts and craft supplies that I need to use up before I can justify buying more.
4. Do some camping. - And by this I mean car camping. You know,
where you go park your car at a campsite and then spend 2 or 3 days
sitting around a fire stuffing your face with delicious food. Last year I
didn't get a chance to go camping, which made me super sad face. Tony
was also mildly disappointed, but more so because I had made him go get a
tent that would fit his giant 6'4" body, not because we didn't do any
actual camping. Because funny as it is, he is not the outdoorsy kind of
guy. I am not really excited to go hiking. I always think hiking is
going to be a great idea, and then approximately 10 minutes up the
mountain I'm like "Screw this shit, this sucks." And it always ends up
taking like 3 more hours than we thought it would. Or we get somewhat
lost and never get to the summit. Or something like that. But, I was a
Girl Scout for 18 years and I do dig camping. And making wish ships.
5. Run - I mostly added this because only having 4 is really annoying. A fifth was necessary. Anyway, I think I'm going to run a 1/2 Marathon, my first 1/2 Marathon, at the end of April, 9 days after I'm suppose to hand in my dissertation draft. Woot woot.

| Uh oh, bad word! But truth. |
1. Reading books that are not required - Oh my god, how much I want to read books that are not required, that have no mention of theory. And are completely unrelated to environmental politics. And maybe, perhaps just maybe, require little to no brain power. Here's what's on my list:
- Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present - I got this book when I was still working on my Masters, that's how long this has been sitting around. It's basically about how a lot of modern medicine is based on the horrible medical testing that took place (obviously consequentially) on African Americans and slaves.
- Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883 - Okay, I had no idea Krakatoa was actually a real place. I thought it was some mythical island, like Skull Island, where King Kong supposedly originated from. Wrong. It was a real place! It disappeared when a volcano exploded, how bananas is that? A place, disappeared, and not that long ago.
- Spell Bound: A Novel (Otherworld) - I've been reading this series for a while, basically it's about supernatural women. Yeah, I went there. This does not come close to reaching the ridiculous levels of my love for fantasy, because this book is actually written for an adult and usually I read young adult fiction. Anyway, I need to brush up on the past 11 previous books, but I'm looking forward to this one coming out in June.
